If you have Wireless router which is have USB port in the device, you can make the USB printer as printer server. Using this setting, you can use the printer without turning on the computer.
How to Install USB Printer using Wireless Router on Windows XP
Note: Using this steps below I assumed that you already setting your wireless router and connected to the network
1. Attached your printer to the Wireless router USB port
2. On your computer, Click Start -> Printers and Faxes -> Add a Printer

3. After click Next, enter your Printer name or IP address, on the Device Type choose setting

4. Done, now you can test to print file from your computer. Good Luck :)

Hello I am using a router with a USB port at the back that is supposed to work with USB printers. I've already connected a USB printer. I tried to follow you steps but I can't get past the "Add Standard TCP/IP Port Wizard"
ReplyDeleteThe question is, how will you know or where can you find the Printer Name or IP Address and the Port Name? I tried typing in the IP address of the router but it doesn't work.
Help pls?
you can use IP address wireless router as IP for your printer, but in my experience setting printer as print server using wireless router has many problem..sometime computer cannot print..
